Alternative Views:

The Chinese Chestnut tree, Castanea mollissima,  is the most popularly planted Chestnut tree in the United States, because it is so cold hardy that it can be grown in almost any State, and it is resistant to the blight.  The Chinese chestnuts are large and dependable crops are guaranteed every year to mature, once the trees begin bearing at about 8 feet tall, the bearing age.  The burrs of the Chinese chestnut trees are sticky, but when they fall to the ground in September, the nuts usually fall free on the ground.  Two separate Chinese chestnut trees should be planted, in order to get the best cross pollination.
