Medjool Date Palm Tree
Medjool Date Palm Tree

Alternative Views:

The Medjool Date Palm tree, Phoenix dactylifera, is a slow growing tree that is very drought resistant, and the Medjool palm tree slowly grows into a very large tree that produces the delicious dates that are marketed at Christmas time.  These trees grow along the coast of Georgia and Florida as landscape specimens, and in California the dates are harvested commercially for supermarket sales.  The Medjool Date palm tree is somewhat, less cold hardy than the Canary Island Date palm tree and do not always perform well in landscapes North of zone 9, and their aqua-blue leaves suffer damage when below freezing temperatures occur.
