Tanenashi Persimmon Tree

Alternative Views:

The Tanenashi Persimmon tree, Diosporos
kaki ' Tanenashi' is an enormous sized Japanese persimmon fruit
growing to the size of a grapefruit and is shaped like a heart.  The
fruits of the Tanenashi are numerous and ripen on the tree in
October.  The persimmons can remain on the tree as late as January
until they are picked off the tree. The leaves usually fall off the
trees after the first October frosts, leaving the trees with a
dramatic look of being decorated with giant, orange Christmas
ornaments.  The Tanenashi persimmon trees are cold hardy and can grow
abundantly in zone 8 and 9.  The large fruit is delicious when fully
ripe with a rich sweet flavor.
