Alternative Views:

The Palmetto Dwarf palm tree, Sabal minor, is a native, low-growing, evergreen palm tree that is suitable to plant  as a cold hardy palm that will survive low temperatures as cold as zero degrees F. from the State of Virginia, and then westward to Oklahoma and South to Texas and Florida.  Landscape plantings of the Dwarf Palmetto palm trees have been continuously growing in healthy, dense clones as far northwards as Vancouver, B.C. in the West and in the East this dwarf fan palm tree has been successful growning in New York, Ohio and Connecticut.  The Palmetto Dwarf palms are popular landscape plants that enhance privacy in Coastal Beach estates, where the clumps grow in impenetrable thickets and are salt water tolerant, even on sand dunes.  The Dwarf Palmetto Palm tree tends to reproduce by offseting 'pups' from the mother plant and forming 4 foot tall barricades when planted in rows, however, these palms resent transplanting unless they are purchased and transplanted as potted plants.
