Jamaican Red Dwarf Banana Plant
Jamaican Red Dwarf Banana Plant

Alternative Views:

Jamaican Red Dwarf banana trees are beautiful tropical plants with deep red leaf undersides that contrast attractively with the bright green leaf upper surfaces.  The Jamaican Red banana plant is somewhat slow in growing during the spring, but in late August the tree seems to surge like no other banana tree cultivar with a rapid widening of the thick leaves that in September can reach 6 feet in length, and this specimen is often planted as an ornamental specimen because of its agreeable appearance and lush vegetative growth.  The bananas on the Jamaican Red banana tree are red in color, half the size of grocery bananas, but sharply spicy and a charming fragrance.  This remarkable banana tree is cold hardy in zones 8, 9 and 10.
