LSU Fig Tree
LSU Fig Tree

Alternative Views:

LSU fig tree, Ficus carica, 'LSU, purple fig is one of several, excellent, fig tree cultivars that have been released and named by the Horticulture Department at Louisiana State University.  The LSU purple fig is a medium sized fig with a fresh flavor that is agreeable and satisfying to taste.  The LSU purple fig is cold hardy enough to grow in zone 8, 9 and 10, and the pruning of the branches, limbs and twigs  is not recommended for increasing fig crop production.  The leaves are very hairy on the LSU fig tree, and the white, milky juice that escapes when the branches are pruned during the growing season coupled with the numerous leaf hairs are very irritable to the skin and terribly painful if allowed to touch the eyes.
