Montmorency Cherry Tree

Alternative Views:

Montmorency cherry trees, Prunus cerasus 'Montmorency',  are sour cherries, sometimes called  'pie cherries', and this cherry tree, like other sour cherry tree cultivars is more cold hardy than are the sweet cherry trees.  The sour cherries have an extended shelf life over the sweet cherries and are more cold hardy than the sweet cherry trees.  The largest sour cherry tree production comes from the State of Michigan, a State that  is known as the, 'Cherry Capital'.  Montmorency cherries are the principal sour cherries that are grown to be canned and also baked into the delicious cherry pies.

Planted the day after arrival 8 weeks ago, not a leaf on any of the trees I'd ordered. BUT the cheap "twigs" purchased from Walmart are leafed out with blossoms...go figure, expensive disappointment.
