Pin Oak Tree

Alternative Views:

Pin Oak Tree   Quercus palustris   The Pin Oak tree is an excellent shade tree that can grow up to 70 feet tall and ranges as a native American tree from Connecticut to Georgia in the South and then to Texas and Oklahoma in the west.  Pin Oak trees grow best  in wet soils that are acidic, and  Pin Oaks are popular shade trees, because of the dense shade from large, dense leaves that turn into a copper color, or scattered clusters of leaves with a bright red color in the fall.  The acorn production comes late in the developing trees as they mature, but nevertheless, they are a valuable wildlife food source for white tailed deer, duck and other wildlife animals.
