Post Oak Tree

Alternative Views:

The Post Oak tree, Quercus stellata, is a native American tree that is found growing in the plains from Iowa, northwards to Connecticut and Southwards to Florida and then westwards towards Texas.  This shade tree grows up to about 40 feet tall, and that is small as compared to other Oak trees .    The Post Oak trees grow with an exotic rugged appearance resulting from the asymmetrical branches.  The wood of the Post Oak trees is hard, tough and also extremely resistant to rot, that makes it an  excellent tree to use for making into fence posts, but the wood is not highly valued to use as hardwood lumber or in furniture manufacture.  The leaves are very distinctively formed that identify it as a Post Oak shade tree, because of its 3 swollen extended lobes.
