Shumard Oak Tree

Alternative Views:

The Shumard Oak tree, Quercus shumardii, is an excellent shade tree that has been widely planted at roadside parks, urban recreational facilities and at private residences.  Shumard Oak trees are found growing as native American trees from Michigan southwards to Florida, and then westwards to Texas.  These Oaks grow very tall, up to 130 feet tall at maturity, and the trees are adaptable to a very acceptable large range of pH soil profiles, droughts and cold temperatures during the winter.  The Shumard Oak trees produce a high quality grained wood of hard, dense lumber that is used for many purposes, especially as hardwood oak flooring.  During the fall change of seasons, the leaves change into a brilliant red color.
